Let’s see which features they have, their ease of use, the support you get, and what their prices are.

Features

One of the key factors when choosing a media monitoring tool is the scope of features each tool provides. In this process, it is always upon deciding which functionalities make the most sense for your company and can provide the best value for money.

Let’s see what both Determ and Mention cover.

Sources

Determ tracks over 100 million online sources, and these are:

  • Facebook,
  • Twitter,
  • Instagram,
  • Youtube,
  • Reddit,
  • Tripadvisor,
  • Websites,
  • Blogs,
  • Comments,
  • and Forums.

Mention tracks these sources:

  • Websites,
  • Blogs,
  • Forums,
  • Twitter,
  • Instagram,
  • Facebook,
  • TikTok,
  • YoutTube,
  • Pinterest,
  • Linkedin,
  • Radio & TV (USA & Canada)

And though Mention offers some sources that Determ doesn’t, the biggest advantage of Determ is that they offer all sources on all pricing plans, whereas Mention covers only Websites, Blogs, Forums, Twitter and Instagram on all plans, the rest of the sources are available on higher paid plans.

Boolean Operators

Determ provides an advanced search option with Boolean Reports, which enables you to narrow down your search and get the most relevant results.

For example, you can track the mentions of the brand name Nike used in the same context as Cristiano Ronaldo and find out what kind of effect did these campaigns have.

Mention offers Boolean Operators as well, with limitations on keywords when setting up Alerts.

Alerts

Alerts are real-time notifications that you can set up in your media monitoring tool and that let you know when the keyword you’re tracking is mentioned online.

With Determ, you can get these notifications through Slack, email, or a mobile app. What is more, they are available on all plans and there are no limitations to how and how many you can set up. You can track 107 languages in 250 locations.

With Mention, there are a lot of limitations when it comes to Alerts. There are 3 types of Alerts and all of them are available only on the highest pricing plan. Even then, they’re limited to 20 a day, and 500 a month. Additionally, there are certain limitations when it comes to tracking languages – Basic and Standard Alerts track 10 languages, and Advanced 44 (which is the overall number of languages that Mention tracks).

Influencers

Both Determ and Mention provide a list of influencers. Those are online media, social media users, and profiles that represent the advocates of your brand. Determ offers the list of influencers by source, sentiment, engagement or reach, and it displays the number of mentions by a specific influencer:

Historical data

Historical data refers to the mentions of your desired keyword before you created your query. Both Determ and Mention offer this in their plans.

With Determ you receive from 1 to 24 months of historical data, depending on your pricing plan. Additionally, you can get more upon request which is paid additionally.

Mention offers historical data only at the highest price plan and it’s an add-on, available on demand and then deducted from the available mention quota, leading to the need to upgrade the plan.

Demographics

Demographical data provide an additional context to your mentions and give an extra dimension to your data and analysis.

Determ provides demographic information on gender, in detail:

  • Percentage Of Sentiment Per Gender
  • Gender Distribution
  • Percentage Of Gender Per Sentiment
  • Mentions Over Time (Per Gender)
  • Locations (Male And Female)
  • Word Cloud (Male and Female)
  • Emoji Cloud (Male and Female).

Demographics is available to users on Plus, Premium and Multibrand Plans.

Mention doesn’t offer information on demographics.

Data export

Determ offers three types of predefined reports in all pricing plans – basic, advanced and competitive, with demographics available in the highest pricing plans. All plans allow you to create an unlimited number of reports. You can also download specific sections of reports or the whole report in PDF or as an editable document ready for customization (PPT). In addition, you can create a custom dashboard (available on higher pricing plans) or create a branded report which you can edit with your logo and colors.

Mention, on the other hand, offers custom reports, scheduled reports, white-label reports and exports only within their most expensive pricing plan.

Automated actions

Automated actions enable you to group and filter your feed additionally. They function on the basis of predefined conditions that you can set up in your account. And when a mention includes a particular keyword or comes from a specific source, you can add a tag to it or set sentiment.

For example, if you’re following customer satisfaction in comments, you can set the tool to assign a “negative feedback” tag whenever a mention contains the keywords: bad, terrible, disappointing, unfriendly, etc.

Determ offers both adding a tag and sentiment to a mention, without any limitations.

Mention has a similar feature called auto-tag, which has limitations – you can create only 100 tags for each alert and tags can contain up to 100 keywords.
