Have you ever had an anxious feeling that news about your brand is being talked about somewhere online without you knowing? In reality, most discussions about a brand happen outside its owned channels. If you’re not on top of these brand mentions and the discussions spiral away, it might not be the visibility you’re after.

To tackle the challenge of being notified when there is an increase in mentions your brand generates online, Determ’s will send a Spike Alert to let you know there is a developing situation worth checking out.

Be it a sudden media crisis or a campaign video going viral, you’ll know.

How to set up Spike alerts

First things first, you obviously have to be tracking your brand in Determ. Then, you will go to the Alerts tab where all future alerts will be visible. Click Add new alert to start.

Now, choose a topic, name your alert, and optionally choose another user (you can create alerts for any user in your organization).

As you can see, Determ has two types of alerts:

  • Smart alert based on specific keywords and sources you set as triggers to receive mention notifications
  • Spike alert when the number of mentions exceeds the defined threshold, indicating a potential crisis or trend.

The next step is to select the Spike alert.

Spike Alert is a new option that alerts you via email when a certain threshold in the number of mentions is reached. Therefore, email is currently the only notification delivery option.

What’s left to do is define the threshold at which you will get a notification in your email inbox. Determ shows you a daily average based on data from the last 7 days, so you know the baseline. By default, we have set it to 1,5 times, meaning there must be an increase of over 50% to mark a developing situation.

You can define the multiplier to any number that works best for you.

When happy with your setup, click Create alert to save. You will be directed back to the Alerts tab where all your alerts and their settings are visible at a glance.
